The Madison BCycle Team

Meet the faces of Madison BCycle who work to change the way Madison moves.

Helen Bradley

General Manager

Helen comes to us after already being a Madison BCycle member for four years! She’s excited to help bring Madison BCycle to the next level, expanding our station footprint and accessibility for all to bike share.

While she grew up taking long bike rides with her family, she’s become accustomed to enjoying more leisurely trips to and from coffee shops, wine, and good food.

“I love the sense of adventure that e-bikes provide and that you can explore your city at your own pace, without breaking a sweat.”

Helen’s summer plans include biking the Monona Lake Loop, camping, lots of hammocking, golfing, and getting outside with her dogs and husband.

Erik Elmer

Operations Manager

Our fearless leader has worked with bikes (seemingly) since the invention of the wheel.

When away from the shop, Erik competes in criterium (city) and cyclocross races. Ever the handyman, he also enjoys home improvement projects, camping with family and going to his kids’ sporting events.

“The Madison BCycle team and the community have a tremendous amount of potential to provide change both in transportation and the climate. What is just as exciting is that BCycle and our e-bikes have given those who have physical limitations a better chance at riding and being active.”

Erik says he uses riding bikes as a way to help offset his love for food.

Jack Callahan

Analyst & Technician

Coming to us in August of 2019, Jack works to improve Madison BCycle's day-to-day operations, whether it’s interacting with riders, data reporting, or finding the best areas for new stations.

He’s looking forward to taking his new Trek mountain bike out on trails this summer, as well as weekly group rides from Madison BCycle HQ.

“The best part about e-bikes is having a comfortable ride into work and not getting exhausted, especially on warm days.”

Peter Black

Lead Field Technician

New to Madison BCycle in 2020, Pete brings an invaluable knowledge base of technical experience to Madison BCycle. Having worked to train those at other tech companies, as well as having ran his own computer and networking business, we know our stations and docks are in good hands as Pete joins the team in 2020.

Pete's an avid kayak fisherman, competing in fishing tournaments both in and outside of Wisconsin.

“I like that the addition of the motor to e-bikes doesn’t take away all control from your ride, but still has enough power to make any incline easy to manage on a leisurely trip.”

He also competes with Erik for best beard in the office.

Mary Coats

Lead Mechanic

Mary started with Madison BCycle in March of 2020, but has worked on bikes for 17 years, including Turin Bicycle, Thirtieth Century Bicycle, and East and Westside Trek stores in Madison. She also raced bikes for several years on UW's team (winning conference, not to brag) and for various teams in USA Cycling events.

When she’s not working on e-bikes, Mary works as an artist, painting, drawing, printmaking. She also plays the piano and ukulele.

“I love that e-bikes allow riders with physical limitations to enjoy riding a bike!”

This summer, Mary’s plan is to ride around both Lake Loops as well as to the New Glarus Brewery!

Tyler Britz

Business Marketing Coordinator

Starting with Madison BCycle at the end of 2019, Tyler works to find area sponsors to help bring e-bikes to further reaches, as well as generating content and maintaining our online presence. You'll also see him out in the field swapping batteries on bikes from time to time.

Outside of BCycle, he enjoys playing golf and pick up basketball with friends, and hanging out at the terrace.

"Madison has a great community for e-bike sharing to thrive as a sustainable transportation option, along with a lot of local partners that are excited to help expand our system."

Tyler says he could beat Kurt in a pick up basketball game, even though Kurt is 6' 8".

Kurt Mueller

Kurt’s been with Madison BCycle since the introduction of e-bikes in June of 2019, seeing the popularity of the system take off with pedal-assisted rides.

When Kurt’s out of our hair, he enjoys fishing, hunting, and biking. He was also a member of Wisconsin’s Rowing Team in college, graduating in 2020.

“It’s been great to see electric bikes enable a greater number of people to get out and see Madison and exercise by bike.”

This summer, he’s hoping to do the Lake Monona Loop at least a few times on his own bike that he built.

He also says there's no way Tyler could beat him in basketball.

Grady Weiler

Originally from Seattle, Grady comes to Madison BCycle in the spring of 2020 after working as a bicycle technician for 15 years. He's also volunteered at community non-profit bike repair shops.

"The exciting thing about e-bikes is that they make cycling more available and enjoyable for inexperienced riders."

In his free time, Grady likes playing music and spending time outside, whether it's mountain biking, camping, hiking or a relaxing family ride around town.
